Diploma Program (DP)

The IB/DP program is a rigorous program presenting students with challenging courses across six subject areas. Therefore, all teachers and all courses set high expectations that our diploma recipients all meet. Here is a list of some of those requirements:

1. All students will take six IB Diploma Programme classes—3 Higher Level (240 hours of instruction) and 3 Standard Level (150 hours of instruction). Our campus has selected English and History as two of the HL classes to coincide with state requirements. Students and parents, in consultation with the IB Counselor and IB Coordinator, will select the third HL class, as well as the SL classes from our offered Science, Math, Psychology, Language B (Spanish and French) or Arts classes. The SL classes are just as rigorous and in some cases more intense as the HL classes because of the shorter time frame in which they are taught. All courses are assessed in May with IB examinations (papers): the HL classes in May of the senior year and the SL classes in May of either the junior or senior year depending on when the SL class is taken. These papers consist of 2 to 3 exams that students “sit” for in May. All May papers are graded by examiners in various locations throughout the world.
2. During the HL/SL classes, students will have both external and internal assessments to complete for each course. Each type of assessment for each course has its own requirements and specified deadline. Specifics on the assessments for each course can be found in the publication "The Diploma Programme" to the side.

3. Each student has requirements in the Theory of Knowledge class during their senior year: a TOK essay as well as a TOK oral presentation.
4. The students research and write their extended essay of 3000-4000 words, beginning in their junior year and due in the Fall of their senior year. They will have a faculty mentor who will offer suggestions and assess the paper based on established deadlines.

5. Each student has CAS to complete during the two-year Diploma Programme.
