Vision 2020 Project ACCESS

Lamar Academy received a NCLB Title II Part D Vision 2020 grant.  The grant project is titled Project ACCESS (A  Computer per Child Empowers Students to Succeed).  This grant provides 1 laptop per student and 1 laptop per teacher for the 2008-2010 school years.

Five Program Goals

  1. Goal 1:Teaching and Learning:  To focus on the instructional needs of teachers and the learning needs of students in meeting the Vision 2020 Immersion efforts.
  2. Goal 2:Educator Preparation and Development:  To provide for training of educators in using technology for teaching and learning and to use technology to provide equitable access to quality professional development.
  3. Goal 3:Administration and Support Services:  To integrate technology into all aspects of the school community, including instruction, instructional management, and administration, and to expand community access to information.
  4. Goal 4:Infrastructure for Technology:  To establish, maintain and update an infrastructure for technology immersion throughout the campus.
  5. Goal 5:Replicable Process:  Document and evaluate technology immersion processes to create a replicable process.

Six Key Resources

Technology immersion involves providing every teacher and every student at an implementing campus with six key resources:

  • a wireless mobile computing device for each educator and student on an immersed campus to ensure on-demand technology access at school and at home;
  • productivity, communication, and presentation software for use as learning tools;
  • online instructional resources that support the state curriculum in English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies;
  • online assessment tools to diagnose students’ strengths and weaknesses or to assess mastery of the core curriculum;
  • professional development for teachers to help them integrate technology into teaching, learning, and the curriculum; and
  • initial and ongoing technical and pedagogical support.
