That makes McAllen ISD one of the first school districts in the country to post curriculum on this electronic format that, until now, has always been reserved strictly for universities. One of the first series that has been posted is an award-winning conversational Spanish TV series that features McAllen ISD students, ?Platiquemos? Stories on KGBT Channel 4, KVEO Channel 23, McAllen Cable Network, The Monitor.

The Lamar Academy Awards Assembly will take place on May 17, 2012 at 8:30 A.M. in the Phoenix Cafeteria.

Lamar Academy "Options" students will hold their Graduation ceremony at Rowe High School on May 29, 2012 at 7:00 P.M. Congratulations to our Class of 2012!

The 2012 IB Pinning Ceremony for the Kappa Class will be held Thursday, May 31, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance, 118 Paseo Del Prado, Edinburg.

The Lamar Academy International Baccalaureate Masterminds team captured the 2011-2012 Masterminds championship on April 23, 2012. Our team defeated Science Academy in the semi-finals and then ousted St. Joseph in the finals to emerge victorious. Congratulations to team members Geoffrey Ballinger (captain), Guillermo Gomez, Meagan Chapa and their coach, Alvaro Ojeda! More information can be found at the KRGV Masterminds website.

Aimee Perez, a Lamar Academy student, has won a $1,000. scholarship from the Texas Association for Alternative Education. TAAE "(The) presentation ceremony is to recognize Aimee’s efforts in achieving this TAAE Taylor Marceau $1,000 Scholarship Award and to install a sense of pride for having achieved this goal in front of all the alternative education teachers across the state attending who strive hard to make sure our kids succeed."

The North Rotary Club 4-Way Speech competition was held March 22, 2012. Here are the results:
1st Place: Jahaira Garcia $500.00 scholarship
2nd Place: Kathryn Wright $300.00 scholarship

The Constitution Team from Lamar Academy claimed the state title December 10 at the Texas State Capitol Building in Austin. This is the 16th state title for a McAllen ISD school since 1992 and the fifth in seven years for Lamar Academy. LeAnna Morse is the sponsor of the Lamar Academy team. The team will represent Texas in the National Competition, April 27-May 1, in Washington D.C.
In preparation for the competition, each unit team prepared a three minute speech in response to formal prompts. On the day of the competition, each unit was asked to present one of their speeches and a panel of three judges had a six minute questioning period to ask follow-up questions.
Teams from McAllen Memorial won the state title in 1992, 93, 94, 95, 96, 98, 99, 2001, 02, 03 and 04. Lamar Academy won state in 2005-06, 2006-07, 2008-09 and 2009-10. On five occasions (1992, 93, 96, 2002 and 06) they went on to finish in the top 10 nationally.
